Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights released on Saturday, March, 7th, 2009 a list of those martyred in IOF's Operation Cast Lead. The 1342-martyr list includes 109 women or 8.10% of the overall death toll, 318 children or 23.69%, 127 over 50 years old, or 9.46%, and 235 members of all resistance factions. Excluding the mostly non militant 27 killed in assassinations and physical liquidations outside confrontations, then the death toll of resistance factions accounts for only 15.50 out of the overall death toll. There are also 210 police and security elements killed at workplace or while they were on duty of keeping order and didn't take part in any hostilities, accounting for 15.6% of the overall death toll.

On a provincial basis, North Gaza province lost 465, or 34.64%  of the overall death toll, Gaza province lost 567, or 42.25%, Deir El-Balah 151, or 11.25%, Khan Yunis 99, or 7.37%, Rafah 60, or 4.47%.

The list shows that those martyred on the first day of aggression are 299, or 22.28% of the overall death toll, in addition to others who died affected by wounds they sustained on the first day.

The center points out that the figures taken in provinces of Wosta, Khan Yunis and Rafah were completely based on the forms filled in by the center's researchers in field visits to houses of the martyrs, while the number of those based on field visits in North Gaza province and Gaza province are 161 and 141 respectively. Thus, a light margin of error is expected in both regions.

It is worth noting that under pressures from international, local and Israeli agencies and amid allegations that the death toll among Palestinians is much less than the declared figures, the center has previously released a list of martyrs before completing the field documentation work.
